Spring Starter Project in Eclipse -- Can not use Maven: M2E -

eclipse luna 4.4.2 java jdk 1.7 

i installed

spring ide plugin version 3.7.3 pivotal software spring tool suite(sts 3.7.3) 

plugins successfully, have no problem switching spring perspective , file->new->projects has several spring related selections.

i have been building using maven no problems. maven version 3.3.3. checking help->installation details dialog shows eclipse m2e-workspace 0.3.1

when accessing eclipse marketplace, dialog shows maven integration eclipse(luna , newer) 1.5 , update button greyed out , there uninstall button, have installed.

when selecting spring starter project, creation dialog box error message @ top reading --

can not import using maven because can not use maven: m2e (eclipse maven tooling) not installed

i have lost maven sub-menu when right click on pom.xml. no longer there.

any ideas on solution before start removing things/changing things , possibly making things worse? explanations welcome.

when installing spring ide plugin eclipse has maven plugin installed results in serious conflict spring ide installs maven. may resolvable, unable find solution.

i did uninstall spring ide, problem not cleared on eclipse restart. deleted corrupted eclipse installation, while keep workspace intact.

i installed sts w/eclipse , pointed @ previous workspace.
